MĀORI NAME: kupara Servant 1973; kupere
COMMON NAME: Cape gooseberry
DESCRIPTION: An early escape from cultivation. Still widely cultivated. Scattered throughout New Zealand in warmer areas.
FOOD: Fruit 'excites the appetite at first, but soon betrays those who partake of it in any quantity' (Servant 1973).
Fruit eaten, used to make jam.
